Its direct location on both the A2 and A7 motorways, the ICE network of the Deutsche Bahn and the international airport ensure that Hanover is quickly and easily accessible. Three Christmas markets give the entire city centre a festive atmosphere. In the old town, next to the Marktkirche, over 190 stalls sell Christmas decorations, arts and crafts and Christmas specialities. On the Ballhofplatz, a Finnish Christmas village lures you in to take a break by the campfire. In the historic village on the old city wall, craftsmen offer an insight into their skills. In the midst of the "Wishing Well Forest", a golden ring at the Oskar Winter Fountain ensures that wishes come true. One of the largest pedestrian zones in Germany offers a huge selection of shops and other locales – the ideal prerequisites for a Christmas shopping trip.
47,000 students IN HANOVER
Hanover is characterized by a diverse university and research community – of world-class scientific calibre and degree programs in virtually all subjects. With around 28,000 students, the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Universität Hannover is Lower Saxony's second largest university. The Medizinische Hochschule Hannover (MHH) [Hanover Medical School], which sets international standards with innovative transplantation medicine, is world-renowned. Other programs such as the Hochschule Hannover, the Tierärztliche Hochschule [University of Veterinary Medicine] or the Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien Hannover (HMTMH) [University of Music, Drama and Media Hanover] provide a wide range of courses – from economics, law and medicine, through science and technology, to the humanities and arts.
