U.S. Air Force Wings Of Blue Skydive Unit Makes Historical Skydive Out of Goodyear Blimp at Pilot Flying J Battle At Bristol

The U.S. Air Force Wings of Blue Skydive Unit cadets skydived from the Goodyear Blimp this morning – the first skydive from the Goodyear Blimp in 51 years – to deliver the game ball for tonight’s Pilot Flying J Battle at Bristol college football game.

The skydive was the kickoff to another first -- the first football game ever played inside a NASCAR track, the Battle at Bristol at Bristol Motor Speedway in Tennessee, between University of Tennessee and Virginia Tech at 8pm ET tonight.

  • The Goodyear Blimp has been broadcasting aerial coverage of college football games for more than 60 years
  • The skydive embodies the spirit of Goodyear’s new college football campaign, “Blimpworthy,” which recognizes hard work, determination and grit on and off the field
  • The three Air Force Academy cadets jettisoned from 2,600 ft. high in the Blimp
  • The Goodyear Blimp first provided stunning aerial views for the 1955 Rose Bowl
  • A new fleet of blimps that can fly higher than ever, reaching altitudes necessary for the stunt, made it possible to perform the first skydive ever from the Goodyear Blimp today
  • Combining the Air Force Academy, ESPN College GameDay and the biggest college football game in history, Goodyear and its Blimp skydive proved to be an event of historic proportions to complete the historical stunt that only Goodyear could accomplish. Just the latest example of its longstanding relationship with the U.S. Military
