About the Saudi Water Authority (SWA):
The Saudi Water Authority (SWA) is the regulatory body overseeing Saudi Arabia’s water sector, ensuring efficiency, sustainability, and security in one of the world's most advanced water infrastructures. The Kingdom produces over 15 million cubic meters of water daily, supported by an extensive network that includes 14,000 km of transmission lines, 135,000 km of distribution pipelines, and 2.2 million water connections.
Aligned with Vision 2030, SWA is driving Saudi Arabia’s transformation from water scarcity to global water leadership by advancing sustainable water management, cutting-edge desalination technologies, and strategic resource optimization. As a global benchmark in water regulation, SWA continues to shape the future of the industry through innovation, efficiency, and international collaboration.

His Excellency Eng. Abdulrahman Al-Fadley - Minister of Environment Water and Agriculture
I believe the water sector is an enabler for development in the Kingdom, and it will perform its role. Mining needs water, industries need water, cities need water for the residents to use, and all sectors require water.
00:02:18:06 - 00:03:35:09
His Excellency Eng. Abdullah Al-Abdulkarim - President of the Saudi Water Authority
Water scarcity is one of the greatest challenges in our time, toward 2030 and beyond.
On the occasion of World Water Day, Saudi Arabia is willing to share all the experience and bring all the expertise to help the world in facing the challenges of water scarcity.
We are the leader in the desalination industry. We are producing more than 15% of the global seawater desalination production.
We have a very institutional architect in the water sector, with a full commercial supply chain, from the production through the transmission, storage, distribution and waste water treatment and then water reuse.
We have the ambition to apply a new concept for water desalination, where we gain from the circular economy by applying zero liquid discharge. This will end up with a free water, with a precious mining production.
00:03:21:18 - 00:03:47:12
Eng. Tariq Al-Ghafari - Deputy President for Research and Emerging Technologies
Thanks to converting stations from thermal to reverse osmosis, we’ve managed to reduce carbon emissions by approximately 38 million tons annually. We have explored various technologies, including reverse osmosis, nano-filtration, membrane distillation, and others. However, the primary focus has been on reverse osmosis.

Saudi Arabia is championing a global action of water security via key actions, a global water organisation and the Water World Forum in 2027.
00:04:02:20 - 00:05:52:18
His Excellency Eng. Abdullah Al-Abdulkarim - President of the Saudi Water Authority
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is the leader in the desalination industry in the world by numbers, and will soon be the leader in water in the world by numbers as well.
