Wakadoo! They did it!

Hundreds of Bluey fans have set a world record for the biggest game of “Keepy Uppy” to launch an incredible trip Down Under.

Spanning three locations across Bluey’s home state of Queensland, dozens of giant bouncy balls were kept off the ground by 702 children in Brisbane, Cairns, and the Gold Coast for more than a minute - with a world record officially declared by Australian Book of Records adjudicators.

The colourful spectacle marked the launch of a ‘dollar bucks can’t buy’ trip for four to Queensland for a 12-night adventure, including a VIP opening at Bluey’s World Brisbane.

Tourism and Events Queensland CEO Patricia O’Callaghan said the campaign was launching across six countries; Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Singapore, United Kingdom, and the United States.

“TEQ is so excited to launch today, with our tourism industry, the biggest campaign in a decade where we are saying to the world come and visit us because we are Bluey’s world for real life”, Ms O’Callaghan said.

“As part of this we are launching a huge global competition today where a family of four can win a VIP holiday to Queensland, 12-nights where they can experience all the best that Queensland has to offer.”

On the Cairns Esplanade, the excitement reached fever pitch as fans of all ages kept their eye on the ball.

“We have to keep up the ball and not let it touch the ground”.

Bluey fans also gathered on the Gold Coast, including Ben Southall, winner of Queensland Tourism’s 2009 ‘Best Job in the World’ competition.

He brought his son Atlas along to be a part of the world record attempt.

“He’s going to walk into school and say I set a world record today and it’s going to be pretty epic.

“15 years since the Best Job in the World, it’s always nice when you get the eyeballs back on Queensland, you know it’s been a tough time coming out the back end of covid, it’s good to see people coming back into the Gold Coast and to have something as iconic as Bluey,” Ben said.

After a couple of practice games, the adjudicator declared, we had the record.

“Congratulations, we did it.

The competition is open to travellers and fans from across Australia as well as New Zealand, the United States, the United Kingdom, Singapore and Japan. Entries close at 5pm AEST Sunday 30 June. Enter at queensland.com/blueysworld.

What is Keepy Uppy? Keep Uppy is a game featured in the TV program Bluey, where Bluey and Bingo attempt to keep a red balloon in the air for as long as possible, bopping the ball with their hands, feet and heads to prevent it from touching the ground.

What is Bluey? Created by Joe Brumm, Bluey is produced by Emmy Award-winning Ludo Studio for ABC KIDS and co-commissioned by ABC Children’s and BBC Studios Kids & Family. A global phenomenon, the show follows the adventures of Bluey - a loveable, inexhaustible Blue Heeler dog- who lives with her mum, dad, and little sister Bingo. Bluey uses her limitless energy to play games that unfold in unpredictable and hilarious ways, bringing her family and the whole neighbourhood into her world of fun.
