Toronto, Canada, 23rd September 2017: Invictus Games Toronto competitors from The Netherlands and U.K. were greeted by Founder and Patron Prince Harry as they contended for Gold and Silver medals at the Jaguar Land Rover Driving Challenge.

The Prince joined finalists at the specially-constructed driving course as they contended for the first medal opportunity of the Games in Canada.

Teams from thirteen nations tackled the off-road and agility driving challenge, which tested their communication, team-work and strategic skills in two time-trials in both a Land Rover Discovery and Jaguar F-TYPE SVR.

Following the event, Prince Harry awarded medals to the top finishers, with the team from The Netherlands taking gold, U.K. finishing second, and Denmark claiming bronze.

Erik Schuijer who competed for The Netherlands team said:

“I might have been the one out there competing today but the Invictus Games is not about the individual, it’s about the team and the journey we all go on to get here. Invictus has played such an important part in my recovery so far. Not just for me but all of my family. We’re here today not just celebrating my achievements but what we’ve achieved together.”

The Jaguar F-TYPE guarantees speed and handling precision for the tough slalom challenge course featuring ’Jaguar Smart Cones’ to create an unpredictable, constantly-changing track layout to increase driver difficulty.

The Land Rover Discovery is also used on a daunting urban off-road driving course with tracks designed to test both driving and navigational skills.

Billed as the world biggest international adaptive sporting event for wounded, ill and injured servicemen, servicewomen and veterans, the 2017 Invictus Games events include archery, athletics, cycling, indoor rowing, powerlifting, sitting volleyball, swimming, wheelchair basketball, wheelchair rugby, wheelchair tennis, and, for 2017, golf.

The Jaguar Land Rover Driving Challenge presents the first medal opportunity of the Games before the Opening Ceremony on 23 September.

Jaguar Land Rover has also recently announced its continued support as Presenting Partner of Invictus Games Sydney 2018.

Why were the Invictus Games established?

Prince Harry was driven to create an expanded international version following his inspirational visit to the Warrior Games in Colorado in 2013. There, he saw how the power of sport could help wounded warriors physically, psychologically and socially.

This year’s Invictus Games in Toronto, Canada run from 23 – 30 September.
