NEW LULLABY DEVELOPED BY NEUROSCIENTISTS TAKES OVER SYRIAN AIRWAVES AT BEDTIME FOR CHILDREN IN WAR AND DISASTER ZONES

New initiative ‘Frequencies of Peace’, replaces sounds of war with a lullaby of peace, performed by Syrian singer Ghaliaa Chaker

A new lullaby, developed by a team of neuroscientists and music therapists, is helping children in war and disaster zones in Syria fall asleep to a more soothing sound.

The unique lullaby, performed by Syrian singer/songwriter Ghaliaa Chaker, is taking over Syrian airwaves every night at 8pm local time to replace the sounds of war with a lullaby of peace – and remind adults that children are listening too.

The song is being played on Melody FM and Arabesque FM over the coming weeks. The lullaby is also available to download on music streaming platform Anghami.

There are many children in the Middle East and all over the world who don’t get a peaceful night’s sleep due to the sound of conflict and war.

Even before the earthquakes on 6th February, one-third of children in Syria showed signs of psychological distress including anxiety, sadness, fatigue, or trouble sleeping, according to a 2021 assessment by UNICEF.

Nearly five million children born in Syria since March 2011 have known nothing but war and conflict, and in many parts of the country, children and families continue to live in fear of violence, landmines, and explosive remnants of war.

Babyshop, a retailer for babies, children and their parents, has created the ‘Frequencies of Peace’ initiative, in partnership with Spiritune, to help children in war torn areas and devastating humanitarian situations to get the sleep they deserve by restoring peace to their bedtime – providing a unique tool, in the form of a lullaby to help them sleep.

The lullaby, which is sung in Arabic, invokes peace and calm for children by leveraging clinically informed, evidence-based research in music therapy and neuroscience from leading institutions like NYU and Stanford to identify the specific musical characteristics that trigger certain emotions in the brain.

Singer/songwriter Ghaliaa Chaker is available for interview to discuss why she got involved in the project and explain her journey in creating the lullaby. Jamie Pabst, Founder & CEO of Spiritune and neuroscientist Dr. Daniel Bowling are available to explain how they used science to create a song that can help children drift off peacefully.
