ICELANDAIR HELPS ROMANTIC PASSENGER PULL OFF THE ULTIMATE FAIRYTALE PROPOSAL THANKS TO THE CELEBRATION STOPOVER BUDDY SERVICE

Icelandair’s new Celebration Stopover Buddy service granted the wish of one passenger by setting up an incredible underwater surprise proposal. HD Video and additional media available to download.

On a recent stopover in the land of equality, Icelandair passenger Jennifer Don proposed to her boyfriend Matt Truebe, with the help of her Celebration Stopover Buddies. It was on the way to Amsterdam, during a stopover in Iceland, that Jennifer took the plunge and popped the question under the near-freezing water of Þingvellir Lake. Modern couple Jennifer and Matt have overcome the trials of a long-distance relationship as Matt’s work frequently takes him to Europe, away from their home in the USA.

This winter, transatlantic passengers with Icelandair can request a Celebration Stopover Buddy to help them plan a celebration and make the most of their time in Iceland. All Buddies are members of the Icelandair team with unrivalled local knowledge and brilliant connections.

Led by flight attendant Unnur, the Celebration Stopover Buddies helped to plan every detail of the underwater proposal for scuba diving enthusiast Matt. The Buddies even arranged for the couple’s family members to fly out and surprise Matt following the proposal and continue the celebration on this one-of-a-kind stopover.

Iceland proved the ideal setting for Jennifer’s declaration of love. Not only is Iceland amongst the highest rated countries when it comes to gender equality*, but Þingvellir Lake is also situated where the tectonic plates of the two continents, which often keep the pair divided, meet.

Icelandair’s Celebration Stopover Buddies are available for any Icelandair transatlantic passengers, and can be requested from now until 31 March 2017.  To request a Buddy for your own celebration or to attend an event on the Icelandic calendar visit Icelandair.com/Stopover-Buddy.
