MADRID, July 15, 2023.-- Today Avaaz complied with the mandate from the Madrid Electoral Board, executing an order to remove the word "VOTA" (“vote” in Spanish) from the now infamous billboard installed in Madrid's Pedro Zerolo square. The Board's agreement comes in response to a complaint from the far-right Vox party, which called for the removal of the banner while accusing Avaaz of inciting hatred through its action.
This morning, workers from the company responsible for the installation of the billboard cut out the fragment of the banner that contained the word "vote" with cutters. The rest of the banner remains intact.
Following the intervention of the workers, Patricia Martín, campaigns director of Avaaz, said: "Vox's attempt to silence the action of our citizen community in the Pedro Zerolo square serves as a bitter appetizer of what may be to come. The same party that kicked off this election campaign with the infamous tarpaulin that threw away the rights and dignity of millions of Spaniards, now accuses Avaaz of hate crimes for opposing its sexist and homophobic discourse. The mutilated tarpaulin now becomes a clear symbol of the gigantic breach that Vox can make in our democracy if it gains access to the government of Spain after 23J (July 23)".

La lona dice despreciar los derechos de las mujeres no es patriotismo. La homofobia no es libertad. Tres días es lo que ha tardado la formación de Santiago Abascal en denunciarnos ante la Junta Electoral pidiendo la retirada de estalona, amparados en un supuesto delito de odio.

Ya lo hemos visto con Trump. Lo hemos visto con Bolsonaro. Lo primero que hacen es atacar, provocar a la ciudadanía. Después la polarizan y enfanga enel debate público y finalmente se victimizan cuando los ciudadanos y las ciudadanas se organizan para seguir luchando por sus derechos y sus libertades.

Me basésobre todo en pensar en esta dualidad que hay, que existe y que bueno, es un poco comopensar desde una forma gráfica como ilustradora que soy, en dar reflexión a la gente que pudiera ver este cartel, en que piense bien hacia lo que no queremos que ocurra a posta, elecciones y que y que bueno que personalmente puede ser no muy beneficioso para ninguno para los ciudadanos de este país.
