Belgium's Ingmar De Vos, who has served as the FEI President since 2014, has been unanimously elected as the new President of the Association of Summer Olympic International Federations (ASOIF). The election took place today, 9 April 2024, at the 48th ASOIF General Assembly held in Birmingham (GBR) during the SportAccord World Sport and Business Summit. Ingmar De Vos ran unopposed and was elected by secret ballot for a term of four years. He will take up his new position on 1 January 2025.
“I am humbled by today’s result and would like to express my deep gratitude to the Summer Olympic International Federations for their trust,” the newly elected ASOIF President Ingmar De Vos said. “In January 2025, I will be taking over from Francesco Ricci Bitti, a hugely respected figure in the Olympic Movement. I would like to take this opportunity already to pay tribute to his leadership and achievements and thank him for his unwavering support, wise counsel, and great friendship. I am fully aware of the fact that I have big shoes to fill and during my mandate I will make it my mission to continue strengthening the role of the Summer International Sports Federations in the Olympic Movement, focus on an open and constructive dialogue with the IOC, further intensify the communications with and between our IFs, and develop a strategy for the future so that together we can keep contributing to the popularity, appeal, and sustainability of the Olympic Games.”

Ingmar De Vos’ biography
A Belgian native, Ingmar De Vos was born on 5 August 1963. He holds Masters degrees in political science, international relations, and international and European law from the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (BEL).
He began his professional career as an advisor to the Belgian Senate. He joined the Fédération Royale Belge des Sports Equestres (Royal Belgian Equestrian Federation) as Director General in 1990 and from 1997 to 2011 served as the Federation’s Secretary General.
De Vos was the co-founder of the European Equestrian Federation (EEF), where he served as Secretary General from 2010 to 2011.
In 2011, Ingmar De Vos joined the FEI as Secretary General.
On 14 December 2014, at the FEI General Assembly held in Baku (AZE), after three years as FEI Secretary General, the Belgian native was elected FEI President in a contested election by an overwhelming majority in the first round of voting. Four years later, at the FEI General Assembly in Manama (BRN) on 20 November 2018, he stood unopposed and was unanimously re-elected for another four-year term. On 13 November 2022, De Vos was re-elected for a third and final term in office by the FEI General Assembly in Cape Town (RSA). He ran unopposed as had been the case four years earlier.
Ingmar De Vos was elected as a Member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in September 2017 and is a member of the following IOC Commissions: Coordination Commission for the Games of the XXXIV Olympiad Los Angeles 2028 (2019 - ); Legal Affairs (2018 - ); and Gender Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (2019 - ). He is a member of the Belgian Olympic Academy and since 2017 he sits on the Board of the Belgian National Olympic Committee (BOIC/COIB).
Since 2016, he has been a member of the Association of Summer Olympic International Federations (ASOIF) Governance Taskforce. In 2019 he joined the ASOIF Council.
He has been a member of the Executive Committee of SportAccord, the world sport and business summit, since 2021.
From 2018 to 2022, Ingmar De Vos served on the Foundation Board of the World Anti- Doping Agency (WADA). Since 2018, he is a member of the WADA Executive Committee.
In 2014, he was a delegate to the International Horse Sports Confederation (IHSC). He was the organisation’s Vice President (2014-2019) and President from 2020 to 2022. He is currently IHSC Vice President.
Ingmar De Vos is a Gender Champion for the United Nations and is fluent in Dutch, English and French.

Nieuw Belgisch leiderschap aan de top van de Olympische Beweging
Ingmar De Vos verkozen tot topman van de Association of Summer Olympic International Federations
Aan de vooravond van de Olympische zomerspelen in Parijs, komt opnieuw een Belg aan het roer van één van de belangrijkste organen van de Olympische Beweging. Ingmar De Vos (Kapellen), die sinds 2014 voorzitter is van de internationale paardensportfederatie FEI, is vandaag unaniem verkozen tot nieuwe voorzitter van de “Association of Summer Olympic International Federations (ASOIF)”. Deze organisatie speelt een cruciale rol, aangezien ze de internationale sportfederaties van zomersporten overkoepelt en ze o.a. vertegenwoordigt binnen het Internationaal Olympisch Comité (IOC).
België internationaal vertegenwoordigd
De verkiezing vond vandaag, 9 april 2024, plaats tijdens de 48e Algemene Vergadering van ASOIF in Birmingham (GBR), welke gehouden werd tijdens de SportAccord World Sport and Business Summit. Ingmar De Vos had geen tegenkandidaat en werd verkozen voor een termijn van vier jaar. Hij start zijn nieuwe functie op 1 januari 2025.
"Ik ben vereerd door het resultaat van vandaag en dank de Olympische Internationale Zomersportfederaties van harte voor hun vertrouwen", zei de nieuw verkozen ASOIF-voorzitter Ingmar De Vos.
Ook de Belgische sportwereld is verheugd over de benoeming. "Bij het Belgische NOC kennen we Ingmar als een zeer betrouwbare, integere en hardwerkende persoon met een hart voor sport. We hebben het geluk dat we op zijn expertise kunnen bouwen voor belangrijke strategische beslissingen," zegt Jean-Michel Saive, voorzitter van het Belgisch Olympisch & Interfederaal Comité (BOIC). "Ik wil Ingmar feliciteren voor het opnemen van deze belangrijke taak, het leiden van zo'n vitale organisatie binnen de Olympische Beweging als eerste Belgische voorzitter. Ambities als aankomend ASOIF-voorzitter
Ingmar De Vos heeft reeds een duidelijke richting voor ogen voor zijn voorzitterschap: "In januari 2025 neem ik het stokje over van Francesco Ricci Bitti, een enorm gerespecteerde figuur in de Olympische Beweging. Ik maak graag van deze gelegenheid gebruik om hem te bedanken voor zijn inspirerend leiderschap, zijn steun, wijze raad en vriendschap. Ik ben me er terdege van bewust dat ik mijn best zal moeten doen om hem te evenaren.
ASOIF speelt een belangrijke rol in de besluitvorming van het IOC en de Olympische Beweging en vertegenwoordigt de collectieve belangen van 33 internationale federaties, met meer dan 40 Olympische sportdisciplines. De organisatie richt zich op belangrijke onderwerpen zoals diversiteit, inclusie en duurzaamheid, en faciliteert de dialoog en het delen van kennis tussen alle belanghebbenden. Als nieuwe ASOIF President, zal ik de ingeslagen richting van Francesco Ricci Bitti voortzetten en voor ASOIF een lange-termijn strategie ontwikkelen in lijn met de essentie van het Olympisch Handvest.
Tijdens mijn mandaat zal ik mij inzetten om de rol van de Internationale Zomersportfederaties in de Olympische Beweging verder te versterken, een open en constructieve dialoog met het IOC nastreven, de communicatie met en tussen onze internationale federaties verder te intensifiëren en een strategie voor de toekomst te ontwikkelen, zodat we samen kunnen blijven bijdragen aan de populariteit, aantrekkingskracht en de duurzaamheid van de Olympische Spelen."
Volle vertrouwen van leden, voorzitter en IOC

Ingmar De Vos' biografie
Ingmar De Vos (Kapellen – Antwerpen) werd geboren op 5 augustus 1963. Hij behaalde zijn masterdiploma's in politieke wetenschappen, internationale betrekkingen en internationaal en Europees recht aan de Vrije Universiteit Brussel (BEL).
Hij begon zijn professionele carrière als adviseur van de Belgische Senaat. In 1990 werd hij directeur-generaal van de Koninklijke Belgische Ruitersportfederatie en van 1997 tot 2011 was hij secretaris-generaal van diezelfde federatie.
De Vos was medeoprichter van de Europese Hippische Federatie (EEF), waar hij van 2010 tot 2011 secretaris-generaal was.
In 2011 werd Ingmar De Vos secretaris-generaal van de Internationale Hippische Federatie (FEI).
Op 14 december 2014, tijdens de FEI Algemene Vergadering in Baku (AZE), werd de Belg, na drie jaar secretaris-generaal van de FEI te zijn geweest, met een overweldigende meerderheid in de eerste stemronde verkozen tot FEI President.
Vier jaar later, tijdens de FEI Algemene Vergadering in Manama (BRN) op 20 november 2018, werd hij unaniem herkozen voor nog een termijn van vier jaar. Op 13 november 2022 werd De Vos voor een derde en laatste termijn door de FEI Algemene Vergadering in Kaapstad (RSA) verkozen. DE FEI heeft goed bestuur hoog in het vaandel en een FEI president mag daarom maximum 3 termijnen van 4 jaar in functie zijn.
In september 2017 werd Ingmar De Vos lid van het Internationaal Olympisch Comité (IOC) en is momenteel lid van de volgende IOC-commissies: Coördinatiecommissie voor de Spelen van de XXXIV Olympiade Los Angeles 2028 (2019 - ); Juridische Zaken (2018 - ); en Gendergelijkheid, Diversiteit en Inclusie (2019 - ). Hij is ook lid van de Belgische Olympische Academie en zit sinds 2017 in de Raad van Bestuur van het Belgisch Nationaal Olympisch Comité (BOIC).

Belgian Ingmar De Vos elected president of the Association of International Summer Olympic Sports Federations
At the dawn of the Summer Olympic Games in Paris, another Belgian takes the reins of one of the main institutions of the Olympic Movement. The Belgian Ingmar De Vos, president of the Fédération Equestre Internationale (FEI) since 2014, was unanimously elected new president of the Association of International Summer Olympic Federations (ASOIF).
Belgium represented internationally
L’élection s’est déroulée aujourd’hui, 9 avril 2024, lors de la 48ème assemblée générale de l’ASOIF qui s’est tenue à Birmingham au Royaume Uni dans le cadre du Sommet mondial Sport et Affaires de SportAccord. Ingmar De Vos s’est présenté sans opposition et a été élu pour un mandat de quatre ans. Il prendra ses fonctions le 1er janvier 2025.
« Je suis très touché par le résultat d’aujourd’hui et j’aimerais exprimer ma profonde gratitude aux Fédérations Internationales de sport d’été pour leur confiance », a déclaré Ingmar De Vos, le président nouvellement élu de l’ASOIF.
Le monde du sport belge se réjouit également de la nomination : « Au Comité national olympique belge, nous connaissons Ingmar comme une personne très fiable et travailleuse, qui a une grande intégrité et un cœur pour le sport », a déclaré Jean-Michel Saive, président du Comité Olympique et Interfédéral belge (COIB). « Nous avons la chance de pouvoir compter sur son expertise pour les décisions stratégiques clés. Ambitions en tant que président ASOIF en devenir
« En janvier 2025, je succéderai à Francesco Ricci Bitti, une personnalité très respectée du Mouvement olympique. Je saisis d’ores et déjà l’occasion pour rendre hommage à son leadership et à ses réalisations et le remercier pour son soutien indéfectible, ses conseils avisés et sa grande amitié. Je suis pleinement conscient du fait que j’ai de grandes responsabilités à assumer.
L’ASOIF joue un rôle important dans la prise de décision du CIO et du Mouvement Olympique et représente l’intérêt collectif de 33 fédérations internationales, comprenant plus de 40 disciplines sportives olympiques. L’organisation se concentre sur des sujets importants tels que la diversité, l’inclusion et la durabilité. Elle facilite également le dialogue et partage la connaissance entre toutes les parties intéressées. En tant que nouveau président de l’ASOIF, j’emprunte la même voie que Francesco Ricci Bitti afin de développer une stratégie à long terme pour l’ASOIF, en ligne avec l’essence de la Charte Olympique.
Durant mon mandat, je me donnerai pour mission de continuer à renforcer le rôle des Fédérations Internationales de sport d’été au sein du Mouvement olympique, de me concentrer sur un dialogue ouvert et constructif avec le CIO, d’intensifier encore la communication avec et entre nos Fédérations Internationales, et de développer une stratégie pour l’avenir afin qu’ensemble nous puissions continuer à contribuer à la popularité, à l’attrait et à la durabilité des Jeux olympiques ».

Biographie d’Ingmar De Vos
De nationalité belge, Ingmar De Vos est né le 5 août 1963. Il est titulaire d’une maîtrise en sciences politiques, en relations internationales et en droit international et européen de la Vrije Universiteit Brussel.

Quatre ans plus tard, lors de l’Assemblée générale de la FEI à Manama au Bahreïn le 20 novembre 2018, il s’est présenté sans opposition et a été réélu à l’unanimité pour un nouveau mandat de quatre ans. Le 13 novembre 2022, M. De Vos a été réélu pour un troisième et dernier mandat par l’Assemblée générale de la FEI au Cap en Afrique du Sud. Il s’est présenté sans opposition, comme cela avait été le cas quatre ans plus tôt.
Ingmar De Vos a été élu membre du Comité international olympique (CIO) en septembre 2017 et est membre des commissions suivantes : Commission de coordination des Jeux de la XXXIVe Olympiade à Los Angeles 2028 (2019 - ) ; Affaires juridiques (2018 - ) ; et Égalité des genres, diversité et inclusion (2019 - ). Le rôle de l’ASOIF est de servir et de représenter les Fédérations Internationales olympiques d’été de la manière la plus compétente et la plus professionnelle sur les questions d’intérêt commun concernant les Jeux olympiques d’été, les Jeux olympiques de la jeunesse d’été et le Mouvement olympique, ainsi que sur toute autre question jugée nécessaire.

La FEI est l’instance dirigeante mondiale des sports équestres reconnue par le Comité international olympique (CIO) et a été fondée en 1921. Le sport équestre figure au programme olympique depuis les Jeux de 1912 à Stockholm.
La FEI est la seule autorité de contrôle pour tous les événements internationaux dans les disciplines olympiques que sont le saut d’obstacles, le dressage et le concours complet, ainsi que l’attelage, l’endurance et la voltige.
The FEI became one of the first international sporting organizations to govern and regulate para-sport globally, alongside its other six disciplines, when para-dressage joined its ranks in 2006. The FEI now governs all international para-dressage and para-driving competitions.
