WESTERN SAHARA, ITALY RECOGNISES MOROCCO'S ''SERIOUS AND CREDIBLE'' EFFORTS

Action Plan for the implementation of the Multidimensional Strategic Partnership between Morocco and Italy signed in Rome by Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita and Italian counterpart Antonio Tajani

 

Italy officially acknowledged Morocco's "serious and credible efforts" to find a solution to the Sahara issue in the Action Plan for the implementation of the Multidimensional Strategic Partnership between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Italian Republic, signed on Wednesday in Rome.

The Action Plan signed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates Nasser Bourita and his Italian counterpart Antonio Tajani reads: "Italy welcomes the serious and credible efforts made by Morocco”, as reflected in Security Council Resolution 2654 of 27 October 2022

With reference to the initiative for Moroccan autonomy, Italy also reaffirmed "its support for the efforts of the Secretary-General of the United Nations to continue the political process aimed at achieving a political, just, realistic, pragmatic, lasting and mutually acceptable solution to the Sahara issue, which is based on compromise within the meaning of resolution 2654”.

Italy, in the Action Plan, "encourages all parties to continue their efforts in a spirit of realism and compromise, within the framework of agreements that are consistent with the purposes and principles set out in the United Nations Charter".

The action plan – finalised in continuity with the Joint Declaration signed in Rabat on November 1, 2019 – is a concrete implementation of the multidimensional Strategic Partnership between Morocco and Italy,a partnership aimed at fostering dialogue as well as practical and mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries.
